SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Bureau of Customs Port of Subic recently intercepted container shipments of alleged snuggled agricultural products here.
According to district collector Maritess Martin, the operation is part of the augmentation of border security along with the Department of Agriculture.
Martin issued Alert Orders on 1 December against the shipments of Veneta Consumer Goods Trading and Lalavy Aggregates Trading, which originated from China.
A physical examination was conducted on 6 December with the presence of BoC officials and personnel along with DA representatives led by Assistant Secretary James Layug and Shirley P. David of the Bureau of Plant and Industry-Plant Quarantine Service Region 3.
The examination revealed that the 1×40 footer shipment of Veneta Consumer Goods Trading — declared as assorted foodstuffs — contained frozen carrots.
Meantime, the 2×40 footer shipments consigned to Lalavy Aggregates Trading — declared as frozen lobster balls and crabsticks — were found to contain fresh red and white onions.
The Port of Subic will issue Warrants of Seizure and Detention against the shipments after the conduct of complete examination and inventory.
