Lawmen arrested a woman allegedly paying her taxi fare with fake P1,000 bill early morning Wednesday at Gate 3, Chino Roces Extension, Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
The woman was identified as Elizabeth de Roxas y Pruelo, 40 years old, police said.
According to Jefrey Andrino y Darang, 39 years old, taxi driver, the suspect boarded his taxi from Malibay, Pasay City going to Gate 3 Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
When they arrived at the agreed drop off, the suspect handed over a P1000 bill for payment but upon examining the money, the driver discovered that it was fake.
The suspect hurriedly asked for her change of P850 but the complainant refused and instead gave her money back.
The woman then went to a nearby convenience store to ask for change but was unsuccessful and tried to pay back the money to the driver which caused an argument.
With the situation, the taxi driver sought assistance from Taguig City Police Substation 1 leading to the discovery of the counterfeit money and the arrest of the suspect.
Suspect is presently detained at Taguig City Police Station while complaints for use of counterfeit money is being prepared against her.
P/Brig. Gen. Kirby John Brion Kraft, director of the Southern Police District, called on the public to take a better look at the money they are receiving to avoid being a victim of counterfeit money.
Kraft said they should look at the security features of the genuine money like the security thread and watermark.
"I urge the public to be wary of counterfeit money now that the holiday season is fast approaching as some unscrupulous persons may take advantage of the situation," Kraft said.
