Forensic pathologist Dr. Raquel Fortun is slated to conduct an autopsy to seven cadavers of persons deprived of liberty after it was transferred to the University of the Philipiines College of Medicine.
The transfer was disclosed by an official of the Bureau of Corrections, saying that the cadavers are among the 45 bodies left at the Eastern Funeral Services, the accredited funeral parlor of the agency.
According to Corrections technical senior superintendent Ma. Cecilia Villanueva, BuCor's deputy director general for Reformation and director for Health and Welfare Services, they sent the cadavers to the PGH College of Medicine on Monday.
She revealed that there were 38 cadavers left unclaimed at the funeral parlor, where 10 of them are due for interment this month.
To recall, there were 176 cadavers discovered by the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police at the funeral parlor shortly after they conducted a probe on the death of Cristito Villamor last October.
There are a total of 140 cadavers that have been buried in three batches as the bodies are already decomposing.
Fortun will conduct the autopsy of the transferred cadavers, which is considered a major development, to determine the cause of deaths of PDs inside the New Bilibid Prison.
