Most passengers interviewed by Daily Tribune at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday expressed elation over the removal of the initial security screening at the departure area of terminal 1.
The dry-run for the removal of the first check started yesterday based on an agreement for the Christmas season reached by the Manila International Airport Authority with local airlines and other stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the MIAA revealed that the transfer of some international flights of Philippine Airlines from NAIA Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 — about 30 percent — will begin today to avoid passenger congestion at the terminals.
The MIAA said it has also added airport police personnel and K9 units at the departure lobbies of the various NAIA terminals. It also advised the airline to deploy additional staff during the holiday season.
An overseas Filipino worker traveling to Bahrain noted there's no longer a rush for departing passengers as they are no longer inconvenienced by the first screening. Other outbound passengers expressed the same observation.
