Operatives of the Philippine Coast Guard saved 11 fishermen onboard a capsized banca in the waters between Tictabon Island and Mampang, Zamboanga City, Wednesday night.
A report reaching PCG headquarters in Manila said that around 10:05 p.m., the PCG received a phone call from a resident of Mampang informing them about the capsizing of F/B JAYA-1 with 11 fishermen onboard, including the boat captain.
The Philippine National Police Maritime Group initially rescued two of the 11 fishermen.
"At around 10:20 p.m., the PCG Station Zamboanga deployed a team that rescued four fishermen, all in good physical condition," the report said.
An hour later, a Coast Guard floating asset carrying another PCG search and rescue team departed Zamboanga City to provide further assistance. The PCG operatives then found five fishermen on top of the floating capsized boat approximately 2.5 nautical miles from the shoreline of Mariki Island, Zamboanga.
A Philippine Navy floating asset eventually towed the capsized boat to the nearest shoreline.
