The local government of Manila is set to put into auction the container vans used as mobile hospitals during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to City Engineer Department director Engr. Armand Andres, the container vans will be disposed after the National Park Development Committee under the office of the Department of Tourism did not renew the lease amid requests made by the local government of Manila and the Department of Health.
In an interview with Daily Tribune, Andres said that the city began accepting interested buyers of the container vans, which were designed as a mobile hospital facility. The container vans served as augmentation when all the city's hospitals were fully occupied.
He said that with the guidance of Commission on Audit, the city government had started accepting interested parties to join the auction of over 200 container vans.
Andres admitted that the city has no area to store the container vans and the best option is to auction them to local governments who need the said facility.
To recall, the container vans — which served as the Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital — was built in Rizal Park by the Manila City government of then Mayor Isko Moreno as a response against the pandemic.
