The commander of the Manila Police District Station 1 yesterday sought a deeper investigation into the death of a 13-year-old girl allegedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Raxabago police chief P/Lt. Col. Rosalino Ibay Jr. raised doubts on earlier reports that the girl allegedly shot herself out of depression in Tondo, Manila.
In an interview by Daily Tribune, Ibay wondered how a girl could have cocked the cal. 45 pistol to shoot herself in the temple inside her room.
"My son, about the same age as the girl, could not load a round in that kind of a gun, much more this girl who happened to be only 13," Ibay said.
While the case is now with the MPD homicide section for investigation, Ibay said he has ordered his men to help gather more information by questioning her classmates, boyfriend and others close to her.
He added they would request a more thorough physical examination of the deceased's body.
The victim was said to be with her stepfather when the incident happened, belatedly reported to the police only after the mother arrived at their house.
The 50-year-old stepfather told the police that at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, he heard gunfire coming from the room of the victim on the third floor of their house.
He claimed he immediately informed the mother about the incident as she arrived from a drugstore. They both the girl, blood oozing from her head.
P/Capt. Giovanni Bringuez conducted the initial investigation on the order of Ibay.
According to Bringuez, the crime scene was already contaminated when he arrived, and there's no way to determine where exactly did the victim shoot herself, if indeed she shot herself.
A Colt pistol was recovered from the scene, but it was not made known who owns it and whether it's a registered firearm.
The girl was having problems at school, according to reports.
