Navotas wins big in exemplary governance

The city government of Navotas won big at the 2022 Urban Governance Exemplar Awards of the Department of the Interior and Local Government–National Capital Region (DILG-NCR).

Navotas received an Ideal Level of Functionality for its Local Council for the Protection of Children and Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children; High Functionality mark for its Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and Functional rating for its Peace and Order Council.

The city was also recognized as a Child-Friendly Local Government; top performer in the Informal Settler Families Cluster for the Manila Bay Clean-Up Rehabilitation and Preservation Program (MBCRPP); and highly compliant LGU in the MBCRPP.

The city likewise landed in first place in the Fisheries Compliance Audit (FishCA).

"We are honored and grateful for the appreciation of our work. We also thank each and every Navoteño for their continued support to the city government," Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

He received the awards together with City Planning and Development Officer Engr. Rufino M. Serrano and Navotas DILG OIC Director Jenifer G. Galorport.

"These awards inspire us to keep improving our governance and providing better service to our people in order to improve their lives," Tiangco added.

Also present were Jennifer Serrano, City Social Welfare and Development officer; Dr. Vonne Villanueva, special assistant to the Navotas Anti-Drug Abuse Council chairperson and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer; Cheney Gabriel, head of the City Agriculture Office; and Engr. Janice Lacsamana, head of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

The Urban Governance Exemplar Awards formally recognizes the contributions and accomplishments of local government units in Metro Manila.

The winners are decided by the DILG through regional assessment and validation of the LGUs' various programs and projects.
