Severe ‘Paeng’ losses hound Zambo City

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The local government here disclosed that at least P300 million worth of infrastructure projects and P17.94 million worth of agricultural products were damaged based on initial reports submitted by the City Engineer's Office and the City Agriculturist Office on Friday.
Zamboanga City Mayor John Dalipe revealed that the Zamboanga City Water District has an estimated P34 million in damage to facilities due to severe tropical storm Paeng while assessment and validation by the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative are still ongoing.
Three individuals were reported as fatalities while over 14,000 families with 75,000 plus individuals were displaced in 55 barangays in the city due to Paeng last week and of the total families affected, 762 of them reported total damage to houses while 1,827 incurred partial damage.
The figures for the displaced families and damages are still partial as of Friday, as assessment and validation on the field continue.

With the declaration of a state of calamity, Dalipe has started the process of Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis which will serve as the basis for project planning and implementation of humanitarian assistance.
The RDANA provides the local government with general information on priority needs, as well as identifying available resources and services, for immediate emergency measures to preserve and save lives and alleviate the sufferings of the affected population.
