Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna was recognized as one of the 2022 Most Influential Filipino Women in the World at the end of the six-day Filipina Leadership Global Summit at the Don Pedro Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal.
The award was bestowed on Lacuna, a doctor by profession before she became a politician, by the Filipina Women's Network. Said group honors Filipinas who are changing the face of leadership in their respective communities.
Lacuna was chosen by the women empowerment group to receive the Policymaker and Visionary Award from among 10 nominees scattered in 10 countries.
The Filipina Leadership Global Summit convenes a select group of women global leaders, influencers, and public figures from 34 FWN member countries.
Those convened participate in business meetings, educational sessions, and learning journeys with corporate and community leaders, as well as elected and appointed officials.
The summit brings together the most influential Filipinas to create a networking pipeline through reciprocal relationships.
"The Mayor of Manila has to be all of these: A leader, an advocate and an influencer to address the numerous and complicated issues and problems confronting the City of Manila," Lacuna said of her attributes that the group recognized.
She added that the city would implement transformative change through "clear vision, political will and a team of competent trustworthy bureaucracy."
As the first female mayor of the city, she said she would address the needs of the vulnerable — the women — in Manila.
Her aim is to help solo parents by creating equal job opportunities that will be posted on the GoManila App.
Members of the Filipina Women's Network are nominated by peers and selected annually by the award selection team of awardees from previous years.
The FWN is committed to leveraging its talent pool of accomplished women by publishing their leadership journeys and encouraging their global footprint through projects that benefit their local communities.
