The National Capital Region Police Office defended the arrest of an organizer of Kilusang Mayo Uno saying they followed a court order.
In a statement, P/Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, NCRPO director, said the case was in connection with the claim that Benjamin Cordero alias Banjo, KMU organizer, was illegally arrested by the police.
Estomo said the arrest of Cordero was conducted pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by a competent court for the crime of frustrated homicide with recommended bail amounting to P72,000.
"Our men merely implemented an order from the court. It is not our intention to harass or maltreat anyone on account of their personal beliefs and opinion. We know that the public understands our position that as law enforcers, we are duty bound to obey legal orders from lawful authorities such as this."
On the alleged illegal arrest, those who claim such may accordingly file the necessary complaint against the arresting officers and guaranteed that due investigation will be conducted.
Estomo said, "that should the investigation disclose lapses, rest assured that we will not tolerate nor condone any unlawful conduct within our rank."
