Police authorities arrested Monday evening a man and a woman for allegedly assuming the identity of a 16-year-old girl to fleece money from her social media friends.
Eastern Police District anti-cybercrime chief P/Maj. Ely Compuesto II identified those collared in an entrapment operation as one Paul Sherwin Bedaña, 25, and Ma. Jasmin Animay, 32; both residents of Pasig City.
Animay was arrested inside a popular fastfood chain in San Joaquin, Pasig after she received the money she asked for from the godmother of the girl.
According to the police, the godmother contacted them as she set up a meeting with Animay who introduced herself as the mother of the girl.
Upon her arrest, Animay pointed to Bedaña as the one who allegedly asked her to collect the money purportedly to be used by the girl for a school project.
