Bataan 2nd district congressman Abet Garcia has filed a bill to further strengthen the state-owned Philippine General Hospital.

Congressman Garcia filed in the Lower Chamber House Bill 5044 or "An act to strengthen Philippine General Hospital or PGH by declaring it as the National University Hospital of the Philippines, appropriating funds therefor and for other purposes."

He said he had already discussed this bill with the Committee on Health last 21 September.

According to Garcia, the purpose of the bill is to provide PGH with its own fund allocation from the yearly national budget, saying "the present fund allocation of PGH depends on the University of the Philippines."

Under HB 5044, Garcia said PGH can then provide affordable quality services to ensure the health needs of the poor and underprivileged.
