Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, set her eyes on the aspect of peace and order situation in the city as she expressed disgust for the rape suspect who was presented to her by Manila Police District Director Gen. Andre Dizon recently.

Lacuna said that while women are commonly perceived as "soft," she wants an iron-clad approach against all forms of criminality.

"Hindi porke't babae ang nakaupong mayor ay pupuwede na ang kalokohan ninyo sa Maynila." Lacuna said.

Stressing that Manila has no room for criminals, the lady mayor also expressed confidence that Dizon shares the same sentiment and would do everything humanly possible to keep criminal elements off the city.

The mayor particularly cited the MPD for the arrest of a 61-year-old suspect whom she said even lied about being the live-in partner of the three minors he raped -aged two, six and 12- when he was in fact just a neighbor and managed to elude arrest for three years.

Lacuna said she believes that a crime-free city is key to progress, since it will lure investors to put up businesses that will result in the creation of jobs which will lead to overall progress.

It is for this reason that Lacuna said her administration is committed to supporting the MPD in whatever way possible.

Apart from the monthly allowance of some 5,000 MPD personnel, the Manila local government is also tapping private entities who might want to help by donating mobile cars, motorcycles and other equipment that would be useful for police work.

The mayor, it was learned, receives nearly hourly updates of apprehensions being made and cases being solved by the different units of the MPD.
