The Senate on Thursday ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections scheduled from December 2022 to October 2023.
Senator Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito, who earlier presided over the bicameral conference of both Houses, presented the bicameral report which contains the disagreeing provisions of Senate Bill No. 1306 and House Bill No. 4673.
Ejercito said that the bicameral panel agreed to defer the said polls from 5 December 2022 to the first Monday of October 2023.
"After much deliberation, it was agreed upon by the members to hold the next synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on the last Monday of October 2023. The subsequent Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections will then be conducted every three years thereafter," he said.
The bicameral committee also agreed to use the Senate version as the working draft, according to the senator.
Senate Minority Leader Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III and Senators Pia Cayetano and Risa Hontiveros voted against the passage of the measure.
