COTABATO CITY — The provincial police chief here disclosed on Wednesday that three communist New People's Army members surrendered to police authorities in Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat.
According to Col. Christopher Bermudez, the rebels who surrendered were identified as Doy Kalon, Agustin Egot and Sidon Umpeng, who belonged to Platoon Samsung of the NPA Guerrilla Front 73 Far South Mindanao Region and residents of Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
The three surrendered with their firearms and ammunition during ceremonies held at Barangay Titulok of Bagumbayan on Tuesday afternoon.
Bermudez commended the local police "for continuously intensifying all efforts to encourage lawless groups to surrender to the fold of the law," adding that the former rebels just wanted to live normal lives, as they have gone tired of running away from pursuing state forces.
