Sympathetic to the plight of families who recently lost beloved senior citizen members, the city government of Malabon, mandated the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs Office (OSCA) to grant financial assistance to the qualified heir of departed elderlies.

Initial conduct of locally funded grant took place at Plaza Diwa of Barangay Tugatog on September 13, benefitting 121 bereaved individuals from the 21 barangays of the city who received P3,000.00 each.

The city mayor deemed this program necessary to somehow ease up the burden of losing elderlies and a small way to augment accompanying economic losses due to hospitalization, medical or funeral expenses.

OSCA Chair Patria Agcaoili with her focal person Ms. Bing Guevarra said their office has crafted ongoing procedures by which such grants may easily be processed in favor of qualified heirs.

"We are always monitoring the situations of our OSCA members and take notice of their needs, as our city mayor constantly directs us to help in any way possible," Agcaoili said.

Mayor Jeannie Sandoval herself graced the first batch of the awarding of grants while succeeding batches are already being prepared.

President of Tugatog Senior Citizen Association, Avelita Ong, welcomed the beneficiaries from all over the city.

Malabon city is also actively implementing the Centenarians Act of 2016 or RA 10868 which provides monetary grants to senior citizens who reach the age of one hundred.
