The father of a Filipino worker on death row in Indonesia has made a personal appeal to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to work for his daughter's release from prison.

Cesar Veloso, father of Mary Jane Veloso, traveled from Nueva Ecija to the Department of Migrant Workers in Mandaluyong City to personally drop off the letter of appeal.

In his letter, the elder Veloso said they are grateful for the Indonesian government's decision to postpone her daughter's execution following a last-minute plea from the Philippine government in 2015.

Mary Jane has been languishing in jail in the last 12 years for drug-related offenses.

In Congress, Assistant Minority leader Rep. Arlene Brosas urged the Chief Executive to urge Indonesian President Joko Widodo to grant Mary Jane clemency.

Brosas said that Veloso is a victim of human trafficking, just like several other Filipinos on death row, most of whom are women.

"There are currently 65 Filipinos facing the death row, most of whom are women, according to the DFA. There should be immediate action in these cases and strengthen anti-human trafficking mechanisms," the solon said.
