LOS ANGELES — Mark Magsayo believes New York-based Irishman Feargal McCrory is going to bring out the best in him.

The Filipino puncher is making his debut at lightweight this Easter Sunday at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas being promoted by Zuffa Boxing.

“I have seen him and his style suits me well,” Magsayo told DAILY TRIBUNE on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).

Magsayo, 30, is glad that he is up against an aggressive rival like McCrory.

“He is right there in front of you. So, it won’t be difficult to go after him. He’s right there to be hit,” said Magsayo, who sports a 28-2-0 win-loss-draw card with 18 knockouts.

The southpaw McCrory, 33, enters the ring with a 17-1-0 mark with nine knockouts.

While Magsayo is pointing to McCrory’s style as a big factor why he sees himself winning big, there is also one thing that has made him supremely confident of getting the job done in style.

“I feel great because I don’t have any problems with my weight. I could still eat even while training and don’t feel drained,” he said, noting his past struggles with maintaining weight as reasons why he often looked sluggish and felt exhausted.

Attending to Magsayo’s needs is chief trainer Marvin Somodio, who gets a big lift from conditioning coach Pedro Garcia and the boxer’s wife Frances Magsayo while working out at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood."

Magsayo plans to fight two more times in 2026 and to make that happen, he has to get rid of McCrory.

“If he doesn’t suffer any cuts or any injuries, he should be back in the ring in August and in December,” Frances said.

Based on Magsayo’s assessment of McCrory, the timeline isn’t going to be revised.
