Acts of Service leads as the most common love language in the Philippines, but relationship satisfaction declines.
A recent National Social Weather Survey conducted in the fourth quarter of 2024 found that 67 percent of adult Filipinos express love through Acts of Service, making it the most common love language in the country.
Following Acts of Service, Words of Affirmation and Quality Time tied at 51 percent, while Giving Gifts ranked at 33 percent, and Physical Touch at 29 percent.
Meanwhile, in line with Valentine's Day, the survey, conducted from 12-18 December, also revealed that Love and Companionship topped the list of most desired Valentine’s gifts, with 19 percent of respondents prioritizing it over last year’s top choice, Money, which fell to 10%.
Among men, Love and Companionship (20%) was followed by Any Gift from the Heart (9%) and Flowers (8%), while women wished for Love and Companionship (17%), Money (15%), and Flowers (12%).
Despite these expressions of love, happiness in relationships saw a significant decline. Only 46 percent of Filipinos reported being "very happy" with their love life — the lowest figure in 20 years — compared to 58 percent in the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, 36 percent said they "could be happier," and 18 percent stated they had no love life at all.
The drop in relationship satisfaction was observed across genders and civil statuses, with the steepest decline among men in live-in relationships.
