A laity group said the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention bill being pushed in the Senate as a "diabolical attack on the Filipino family."
In a statement, the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (SLP) argued that the Senate and Department of Education "should be secondary to the Filipino family."
The SLP's statement came after a viral video posted by the Project Dalisay Facebook page under the National Coalition for the Family and the Constitution, expressing dismay over the legislative push for the comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) program.
The video thumbed down some provisions of the bill, as well as features of the CSE program that may “hypersexualize children at a very early age.”
"We commend Project Dalisay for sounding the alarm on the diabolical attack on the Filipino family. Diabolical because the true intentions of the authors were masked behind such a lofty title," the SLP lamented.
The group further stated that the Senate bill "is diabolical in nature as it aims to remove the parents from any participation in their adolescents' life."
It urged the Senate to "dump the bill" and expressed its disappointment to some of the authors of the bill, including re-electionists Senators Imee Marcos, Christopher "Bong" Go, and Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr.
"We are disappointed, and we expect you to change your stance. And we call on DepEd to suspend implementation of CSE. For the Filipino people, and for the family."
