Moonton tackles life after esports

JM Siasat

Moonton Games head of esports ecosystem, Ray Ng, knows all too well that a playing career does not last forever. In fact, in the grueling world of competitive esports, players in their thirties are already considered up in age.

Knowing that professional esports athletes may end up retiring in their twenties, Ng says that Mobile Legends: Bang Bang developer Moonton Games is ready to lend a hand in helping players prepare for life after gaming.

"Ultimately, it depends on the players. We can have them [worth with] a proper career coach for them. As a publisher we definitely [have] to provide guidance to the organizations and esports teams," Ng told DAILY TRIBUNE.

It is worth noting that looking after esports players does not entirely lie on the shoulders of Moonton Games, which is why Ng says that the link should be directly between the developer and the organizations employing the athletes.

In the dynamic and ever-evolving esports scene, Ng highlighted that similar to traditional sports, career advancement and opportunities are opening up for those who would like to venture into other areas of the industry.

"They should have a proper career coached to esports players, including what the plan is after retirement. They can become streamers, KOL (key opinion leader), and shoutcasting—getting into the esports industry," Ng stated.

"Or, we even get back to school to [acquire] the knowledge of the sport. That is something we can provide guidance to the teams for the teams to have the players plan ahead."
