An attempted robbery targeting a foreign national in front of a fast-food establishment along Macapagal Boulevard in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City on Saturday night was swiftly neutralized thanks to a rapid police response triggered by gunfire, leading to the arrest of one suspect and renewed calls for heightened public vigilance and stricter controls on ride-hailing gear.

Initial investigations revealed that the 46-year-old victim was walking along the thoroughfare when he was targeted by motorcycle-riding criminals. A physical struggle ensued between the victim and one of the suspects, during which a firearm was discharged.

The sound of the gunshot instantly alerted police officers deployed nearby under proactive patrol protocols. The immediate response resulted in the interception and apprehension of one fleeing suspect at the scene.

Operatives recovered a Glock pistol, live ammunition, a black Yamaha NMAX motorcycle, two black bonnets, a blue helmet, improvised license plates, and apparel bearing the markings of a popular motorcycle ride-hailing service. Joint personnel of the Tambo Police Sub-Station and the Intelligence Section are actively pursuing two remaining accomplices.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Officer-in-Charge Police Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano commended the responding team for their swift action and operational readiness, emphasizing the success of visible policing strategies.

Highlighting the critical need for situational awareness, Abrahano urged the public to remain alert while navigating the streets.

“Criminals often exploit moments of distraction. We remind the public to practice heightened awareness when walking along thoroughfares—stay off isolated paths, keep mobile devices tucked away when not in use, and immediately report suspicious individuals or lingering motorists to authorities through 911,” Abrahano said.

The NCRPO chief also issued a strong appeal to transport network companies and online platforms to implement stricter regulations, verification, and accountability on the sale, distribution, and resale of official driver uniforms and merchandise. Unregulated access to these items compromises public safety and allows criminal elements to easily camouflage their illicit activities.

“We call upon transport and delivery companies, as well as online and physical retailers, to enforce rigorous controls over the distribution of official uniforms and gear. Closing these loopholes is essential to preventing criminals from misusing trusted brand identities to perpetrate crimes,” Abrahano added.
