Traced remembrance

Style, at its most profound, is an act of gentle preservation. In an era consumed by the ephemeral, Manila’s discerning art circles and style arbiters gathered in quiet anticipation for the spectacular opening night of Angela Panlilio’s latest solo exhibition, WHAT STAYS.
The evening unfolded with the seamless presentation of refinement thick with reverence for memory, light and time.

RACHEL Sexton, Carl Jan Cruz and Monique Madsen.
Panlilio, known for her evocative visual storytelling, presented a body of work that acts as an intimate geography of the human experience. Her unique artistic methodology — steeped in a veiled, interpretative approach to capturing images — takes on an extraordinary intellectual depth in this collection. By meticulously playing with perspective through structured configurations, her art constructs what can only be described as a topography of sides, showing an immense technical attentiveness to the softness of borders.
Pieces exist at a hinge, folded, stacked, or facing one another as Panlilio guides the viewer through the altered landscapes of her life with a brilliant, direct instinct — depicting mountain ranges building their peaks, tracing the flight of birds, and unearthing an unspoken lineage between flowers and doors.

GERECHO Iniel, Steph Frondoso and Poklong Anading.

TISHA Garcia, Minena Garcia and Lindy Roxas.
Her signature “layeredness” is not merely a physical collage of surfaces, but a soulful attempt to put bits and pieces back together into a cohesive, generous view of the world. As guests moved through the space, the collection whispered a poetic truth: that despite the distances we cross, a piece of ourselves can always be found elsewhere.
This brilliant showcase, curated with sophisticated restraint, found its perfect seasonal sanctuary at Artinformal Makati in Karrivin Plaza.
