Senator Christopher “Bong” Go welcomed the opening of the Barangay Malabog Super Health Center in Davao City’s Paquibato District this week, saying it would bring basic medical services closer to residents of remote communities.

Malabog is in Davao City’s 2nd Congressional District, where residents face long travel times to reach medical facilities in the city proper. Emergency responders can take more than an hour to reach the barangay.

“It’s important to bring health services closer to the people so that even through a simple consultation, illnesses can be caught early and prevented from worsening,” Go said in a message.

Go was represented at the inauguration by Davao City 2nd District Councilor Che-Che Justol and his Malasakit Team, which distributed food packs to barangay health workers.

Super Health Centers provide primary care, consultations, basic diagnostics and preventive services. The facilities are intended to reduce pressure on major hospitals by addressing common illnesses at the community level.

Free consultations are to be provided through local health offices and the Philippine Health Insurance Corp.’s Konsulta program for enrolled members.

Go said more than 700 Super Health Centers had received funding nationwide, including 11 in Davao City. He urged the Department of Health and other agencies to ensure that completed facilities become operational.

“It would be a waste to have a facility near you that goes unused. It is really meant for you and your family,” he said.
