Benched DICT exec defends integrity amid Ombudsman suspension

Suspended Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary David Almirol Jr. denied allegations of conflict of interest Thursday, asserting he held no stake in P1.55 billion worth of government contracts linked to his former technology firm.
Almirol issued the defense in a statement following an Office of the Ombudsman order placing him on a six-month preventive suspension without pay.
The suspension stemmed from a report by the DICT Internal Audit Unit that flagged potential conflicts of interest involving Multisys Technologies Corp., a company Almirol founded in 2010 and led as president and chief executive officer until joining the government.
