The Philippine National Police (PNP) is reviewing guidelines governing police security details amid concerns that officers assigned to protect politicians, businessmen and other high-profile individuals are being used for personal errands.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Tuesday, 20 October, that the review aims to strengthen accountability and ensure officers perform only their authorized security duties.

“Our officers are trained protectors of human life and public safety, not personal errand boys or logistics aides for private errands,” Nartatez said.

“I remind all personnel that your loyalty belongs to the Constitution, the people, and the PNP. You must never allow your uniform to be degraded by tasks outside your legal mandate,” he added.

The review will include regular monitoring of deployed security personnel to ensure compliance with PNP regulations.

Nartatez said the initiative follows concerns raised over police officers allegedly performing duties unrelated to protective security, including references to “special tasking” during recent court testimonies.

He stressed that police personnel must maintain clear boundaries between their official responsibilities and the personal demands of those they protect.

“Their actions must always be anchored on the law and their sworn duty, not on the personal demands of the individuals they protect,” Nartatez said.

The review forms part of the Marcos administration's efforts to strengthen professionalism and accountability within the police force.
