DTI holds training on enhancing coffee productivity

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Nueva Ecija led the Shared Service Facility (SSF) Training on Enhancing Coffee Productivity, Quality, and Marketability through Good Agricultural and Post-Harvest Practices at Barangay Minuli in the town of Carranglan, Nueva Ecija on 24 September 2026.

The said program brought together local coffee growers, processors, and SSF cooperators—including Tiago’s Homegrown Coffee and MICFA—alongside members of the Nueva Ecija Coffee Technical Working Group (TWG).

The said Nueva Ecija Coffee TWG included representatives from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office (DARFO) Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (APCO), First Gen Hydro Power Corporation, Inc., and Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology.

Serving as resource speakers, industry experts provided participants with vital technical knowledge on proper crop handling, post-harvest processing, and agricultural standards designed to elevate local coffee quality.

“Beyond technical skills enhancement, the collaborative event fostered valuable networking and strategic partnerships among stakeholders, laying a strong foundation for future capacity-building and the continued growth of the Nueva Ecija coffee industry,” the DTI Nueva Ecija stated.

While traditionally celebrated as the “Rice Granary of the Philippines,” Nueva Ecija's agricultural landscape has steadily expanded into the coffee sector. The province’s coffee industry is defined by sustainable agroforestry initiatives in its mountainous areas and a rapidly growing urban café culture driven by micro-roasters and specialty coffee shops.
