Do not feel guilty. Just be honest. You cannot change what you refuse to look at.

You still have time to fix your finances, rebuild your savings and finish the year stronger than you started. Many people think, “The year is almost over. I’ll just start again in January.”

But why wait? You still have around 90 days before 2027. That is enough time to change your money habits, rebuild your savings and clean up any financial mistakes. You may not fix everything in 90 days, but you can enter 2027 with more control and less stress.

I remember talking to someone who earned a good income. He had a stable job, a nice car and could afford to eat out often. From the outside, he looked financially comfortable.

But he told me, “Chinkee, I earn well, but I don’t know where my money goes.”

That is a problem many middle-class families and professionals face. The issue is not always how much we earn. Sometimes, we simply stop paying attention.

So before the year ends, try this 90-day money reset.

Look at the last 90 days.

Open your bank statements, credit card bills and e-wallet history. Where did your money go? You might discover P3,000 spent on subscriptions you barely use, P8,000 on food deliveries and several “small” online purchases that became P15,000.

Do not feel guilty. Just be honest. You cannot change what you refuse to look at.

Choose three expenses to reduce.

Do not cut everything. That usually does not last. Choose only three. Maybe you eat out one less time each week. Maybe you delay buying another pair of shoes. Maybe you cancel subscriptions you no longer use.

Even saving an extra P5,000 a month gives you P15,000 after three months. Small changes become real money.

Rebuild your emergency fund.

Maybe your savings became smaller this year because of tuition, medical needs, home repairs, travel or unexpected expenses. Start rebuilding now. Set an automatic transfer every payday. It could be P2,000, P5,000, P10,000 or more depending on your income.

The amount matters, but the habit matters more.

Prepare for Christmas before Christmas.

December can destroy a good budget. Gifts. Parties. Travel. Family gatherings. Noche Buena. “Deserve ko ’to” purchases.

Decide on your Christmas budget now. If your budget is P30,000, do not wait until December to find P30,000. Start setting money aside today. Christmas is more enjoyable when January does not come with a huge credit card bill.

Decide what you want January to look like.

Imagine waking up in 2027. Would you rather have another new gadget — or P50,000 more in savings? Would you rather impress people during Christmas — or have money ready for tuition, insurance, travel, business or emergencies?

Your answer will guide your next 90 days. You do not need a perfect financial year to finish strong. Maybe you overspent. Maybe your savings went down. Maybe some goals did not happen.

The year is not over. Ninety days of better choices can give you momentum that lasts far beyond January. Start today. Your future self will thank you.
