Newcomer ClearSkiiin is making a serious bid to go deep in its maiden campaign in the coming 2026-2027 Spikers’ Turf season.

The league’s newest club was formally unveiled on Friday as the UV Smashers boldly declared their intentions to vie for a Final Four spot and even the crown right on its debut foray.

“We’re not entering this league just to participate,” Filipino-American head coach Joe Bangit said during the club’s launch at the Seda BGC in Taguig City.

“I’m going to say that right now. We are not here just as another team. We are going to compete every single time. I can promise you that,” added the tactician, who has been coaching in the United States for 14 years in different divisions, including the NCAA women’s Division 1 and 2.

Sandy Montero, Peter Torres, John Pagtalunan, Kenneth Hernandez and Pawix Agir serve as Bangit’s assistants.

ClearSkiiin is the second club put up by team owner Sydney Calderon after the perennial contender Savouge Spin Doctors.

The UV Smashers parade a good mix of veterans and rising stars led by co-captains open spiker Louis Gamban and opposite hitter JM Ronquillo.

Calderon, a staunch supporter of men’s volleyball and a champion of inclusivity in the sport, formed a new team with the noble goal of giving local talents a chance to compete and showcase their skills in the premier commercial league.

“The ClearSkiiin UV Smashers started with a very simple but meaningful reason. We wanted to create an opportunity for players who suddenly found themselves without a team. A place where they can continue what they love, continue competing and at the same time have a source of income through volleyball,” said Calderon, who is also the head coach of Savouge.

Also suiting up for the UV Smashers are wingers Ruvince Abrot, Jayrack Dela Noche, Renzel Antonio, Edward Camposano and Angela Gayud. Forming a solid frontline crew are KC Andrade, Charlee Magpayo, Jester Bornel and Naz Gwaza.

Manning the floor defense for ClearSkiiin are liberos Rick Adao, Bhim Diones and Robert Zulueta. Former national team standout Kim Dayandante handles the main playmaking duties, backed by setter John Michael Paglaon.

Sports Vision Management Group Inc. president Ricky Palou also graced the press conference, expressing confidence in the competitiveness of the new squad.

“This is your second team, you have Savouge and now you have Clearskiiin. We welcome you to the Spikers’ Turf. We’re more than happy to have you join us again. I hope you will do your best, show everybody your skills and hopefully soon you win a championship,” Palou said.

The UV Smashers begin their journey when the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference unwraps on 10 October at the SM Seaside City Cebu.
