THE local government of Manila has extended its ‘Rice for Work’ Project to Districts 5 and 6, mobilizing 250 qualified beneficiaries for community cleanup operations. The initiative encourages residents to maintain environmental cleanliness while providing essential support to families in need.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso led the distribution Thursday of three kilograms of rice to 250 daycare parents from Districts V and VI and the Baseco compound under the city’s Rice for Work Program at Dakota Court along President Quirino Avenue in Malate.
Carrying the theme “Kaagapay sa Hapag-Kainan,” the initiative provides three kilograms of rice to each qualified beneficiary in exchange for participating in local sanitation and environmental activities.
Can you help the city government of Manila clean up our environment, Domagoso said, adding that participants benefit their communities while earning food to bring home to their families.
Vice Mayor Angela Lei “Chi” Atienza and Manila Department of Social Welfare director Jay dela Fuente joined Domagoso at the event as part of city efforts to combine civic engagement with direct assistance.
The second phase of the program runs through 21 September, with community cleanup projects scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday.
City officials said the program aims to address immediate food needs among vulnerable families while promoting volunteerism, civic responsibility and community cooperation.
During the event, Domagoso also urged parents to help raise awareness about leptospirosis, emphasizing that timely information remains crucial to protecting families from preventable health risks.
