Filipino Michael Jackson fans, it is time to "Beat It" over to Singapore! The four-time Tony Award-winning MJ The Michael Jackson Musical is sliding into the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands for a limited season in August 2027.
Since Singapore is just a short flight from the Philippines, the King of Pop’s magic, moves, and music are strictly within easy reach.
This monster hit of a musical was already seen by more than 8 million audience members worldwide across Broadway, London’s West End, Hamburg, and tours throughout the United States and Australia.
Critics are totally feeling the beat as well.
The New York Times says MJ "delivers the thrills," the Chicago Tribune calls it "brilliantly choreographed and magnificently evocative" as well as "an eye-popping rush of adrenaline and excitement," and Rolling Stonepromises "you’ll leave the theatre on a giddy high" from this "exhilarating" spectacle.
Jam-packed with more than 25 iconic hits like Beat It, Smooth Criminal, Man in the Mirror, and Thriller, this production brings his signature moves and timeless tracks to life.
Set in 1992, the plot takes you behind the scenes during the creation of Jackson’s iconic Dangerous World Tour. Through the lens of an MTV journalist granted rare rehearsal-room access, the narrative follows Michael as he works tirelessly to bring his vision from his mind to the stage.
Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Ruined, Sweat), MJ explores pivotal moments in Jackson’s artistry, alongside the collaborative spirit and creative genius that catapulted him into legendary status.
The Singapore run even brings back some serious nostalgia, as Jackson famously performed two sold-out concerts in the city during his actual Dangerous World Tour in 1993.
Directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon OBE, MJ moonlight-walked away with four Tony Awards, including Best Choreography for Wheeldon, plus an Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreography for the West End production.
Wheeldon shared that the team created this show to honor the beloved songs alongside the artistry, innovation, and creative spirit behind them.
