Newly appointed National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) officer-in-charge P/Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano on Monday urged parents and teachers to closely monitor children’s online activities amid concerns over violent or nihilistic grooming.

Abrahano warned that online groomers promoting violent or nihilistic extremism have reached the Philippines, underscoring the need for families and schools to recognize warning signs before they escalate into violence.

“Online violent/nihilistic grooming is a thing. It is happening. Kailangan mabantayan natin ang mga anak natin sa kanilang online presence,” Abrahano said.

He stressed that awareness among parents, teachers and students, coupled with coordination with authorities, is crucial in identifying potential threats.

“Early detection is key,” Abrahano said in a radio interview.

He added that schools should have protocols in place when signs of violent or nihilistic grooming are detected and ensure members of the school community know how to respond.

“The general direction is to prevent it at all cost,” he said.

Abrahano identified early detection, coordination and awareness as key measures in preventing violence in schools, particularly as young people spend more time on social media and other online platforms.

‘Every call answered’

Abrahano also vowed greater police visibility and faster response times across Metro Manila as he assumed leadership of the NCRPO.

“Our duty is simple: to be ready, to respond properly and to earn the public’s trust. Today, I accept the responsibility of leading the NCRPO. The NCRPO, under my leadership, will be an active partner in ensuring a secure, peaceful and progressive Metro Manila,” he said Sunday.

“To the people of Metro Manila, expect your police to be present, responsive, professional and respectful. You don’t need influence or connections to receive proper police service,” he added.

“Our commitment is simple: every beat covered, every call answered.”

Abrahano previously served as chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and as regional director of the Police Regional Office 10.
