Strong Group-Pilipinas continued its winning ways in the 45th Jones Cup after crushing Japan, 107-86, for its third straight victory at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City on Tuesday.

Isaiah Piñeiro led the charge for Strong Group, exploding for 25 points on an efficient 10-of-14 shooting as the Filipino side improved to a 3-1 win-loss record in Group A.

Japan threatened early and even held a 33-28 lead with 9:22 left in the second quarter before Tajuan Agee sparked Strong Group’s turnaround.

Agee sank two free throws to ignite a 17-0 run that turned the deficit into a commanding 45-33 advantage, with Strong Group never looking back.

Agee finished with 15 points, while Remy Martin chipped in 13.

Hayato Wakugawa paced Japan with 25 points, but his effort went for naught as Japan absorbed its fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament.

Strong Group will look to make it four wins in a row when it faces Wonju DB Promy on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the same venue.

The matchup also gives the Filipinos a chance to avenge their 110-79 loss to Wonju DB Promy last Friday.

Strong Group is targeting a top-two finish in Group A to secure a spot in the semifinals of the prestigious annual tournament, which is named after former International Basketball Federation secretary general William Jones.
