The cavalry is arriving to reinforce Barangay Ginebra.

Resident import Justin Brownlee is set to arrive today after a long layoff coming from a hamstring injury, which meant the Kings will see the four-time Best Import back in action once the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Governors’ Cup resumes hostilities next month.

Brownlee’s arrival meant Riley Grigsby has seen his last game with Ginebra in a sorry 88-97 loss to Meralco last Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“He’s arriving Sunday night. He’ll be in practice on Monday with Gilas,” Kings head coach Tim Cone said.

The 38-year-old naturalized player is set to suit up for Gilas Pilipinas for the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers fourth window and in the Philippines’ bid for back-to-back gold medals in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

“It’s always nice that we know Justin’s coming back. Hopefully, he’ll be healthy after playing in the Asian Games, but we’ll see,” Cone added.

Brownlee will hook up with a Ginebra squad that’s been struggling to find its form.

The Kings have only two wins after six outings, with Grigsby filling in for the big shoes left by the six-time champion Ginebra reinforcement.

Grigsby finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds in what could be his farewell game unless Brownlee is again unavailable when the Kings resume their campaign to get out of the rut and compete for a playoffs seat.

“Riley will stay on call for us,” Cone said.

“If something happens to Justin or he can’t make it, there’s a good chance we’ll bring Riley back. He’s a good guy. He knows what he’s doing.”

Grigsby is set to leave Manila on Monday.

“He’s going home on Monday. Yeah, I think that’s the PBA rules (having imports on call). The imports are not going to be paid for the next six weeks. I think most of them, all of them, are going home. Then they’ll be recalled. That’s my understanding. I may be wrong,” Cone said.
