Infrastructure projects and drainage upgrades have significantly reduced flooding in Barangay Tunasan, transforming an area long vulnerable to severe inundation, Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon said.

Addressing the historical flooding along Arandia Street in Purok 4, Biazon recalled that light rain was once enough to submerge parts of the barangay.

“Before, even light rain without a storm was enough to submerge parts of Barangay Tunasan, especially Purok 4, Arandia Street,” Biazon said.

Biazon attributed the improvement to long-term road elevation and drainage rehabilitation initiatives funded and executed during the tenure of his late father, former Senator and Muntinlupa Representative Rodolfo “Pong” Biazon.

“This is a far cry from the situation today, years after former Senator Pong Biazon, who was then Muntinlupa’s congressman, funded and implemented vital projects to elevate roads and improve water channels,” Biazon added.

The mayor cited that elevated roads and improved drainage systems have largely eliminated standing floodwaters along main streets and residential areas.

“As of now, roads and homes are no longer flooded like before because the roads were raised and the drainage was fixed,” Biazon said.

He cited that localized water accumulation now occurs mainly during heavy downpours along the Aplaya coastal area or when nearby rivers overflow, adding that city emergency units immediately deploy temporary steel pedestrian bridges to affected spots when needed.

“Tunasan has come a long way from its former condition,” Biazon said. “While not perfect, the significant change is felt.”
