Fishers' plight

(August 11 2026) International marine conservation Oceana representatives with Small-scale fisherfolk, marine scientists, and fisheries experts, hold a press conference in Quezon City on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, calling for the immediate installation of vessel tracking devices on commercial fishing vessels. The groups raised concerns over the Supreme Court’s July 30 decision declaring unconstitutional Fisheries Administrative Order 266, which required commercial fishing vessels to use tracking devices and transmit real-time data to help prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. They said Without vessel monitoring measures VMM commercial fishing vessels can ply undated and illegally catch fish inside the 15 kilometer municipal waters, the fishing ground of municipal fishers.
