As many as 752,000 individuals have been affected by the combined effects of tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay and the southwest monsoon, with eight people reported dead, nine injured and one missing as of 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Eight deaths were recorded in Benguet, Rizal and Batangas. In Rizal, two people died in a rockslide in Rodriguez, while another was killed after being struck by a fallen tree in Antipolo. Batangas recorded three deaths due to drowning, electrocution and a landslide.

Nine people were also injured: seven in Benguet, one in Rizal and one in Cavite. In Benguet, five people were injured in a landslide in Baguio, one in a landslide in La Trinidad and another in a vehicular accident in Kapangan.

Meanwhile, one person remains missing in Batangas.

According to the NDRRMC, the disaster has affected 223,000 families across Regions I, II, III, V, VI and IX, as well as the Cordillera Administrative Region, MIMAROPA and CALABARZON. At least 300 houses were damaged, including 276 partially damaged and 24 totally damaged.

The agency also reported that 412 evacuation centers had been established, providing shelter to about 10,000 families, or 34,400 people.

Infrastructure damage has reached ₱1.12 billion, while agricultural losses were estimated at ₱3.53 million.

The NDRRMC said ₱33.94 million worth of assistance had already been provided to affected communities.
