The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will revive its stalled probe into alleged anomalous government projects, expanding its focus to include substandard work, panel chair Erwin Tulfo said Sunday.

The move follows the collapse of a retaining wall along EDSA-Ayala beside Forbes Park. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the structure may have used lightweight materials instead of solid concrete specified in the contract.

“Bridges, roads, and public works that clearly failed to meet standards. We will investigate them one by one,” Tulfo said.

“Obviously, there’s corruption in there because you are given this certain amount of budget to construct these structures according to standards, but it’s unfinished or subpar,” he added.

The probe will also cover alleged irregularities in Taguig, where former BRC Chair Sen. Ping Lacson identified 32 flood-mitigation projects as potentially anomalous.

Lacson said the alleged irregularities included illegal reclamation, ghost projects, double funding and recycled photographs used to justify payments.

He said the Philippine Reclamation Authority found that the alleged reclamation had no permit. Lacson said some witnesses preferred to cooperate with the Ombudsman rather than appear in a public hearing.

“The witnesses asked if they could be referred to the Ombudsman instead of being called to a public hearing. I agree with them, because they might be exposed prematurely if they are called to the public hearings,” he said.

Cayetano denied the allegations, saying the Bicutan lakeshore remains under government control and is designated as a public park. He said the projects spanned the Aquino, Duterte and Marcos administrations.
