Alas Pilipinas savored its historic milestone made sweeter by an ice-cold revenge win.

A week after suffering humiliation in the first leg, Alas achieved retribution in a dramatic 25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 33-31, victory over Indonesia to close the second stop of the 2026 Southeast Asian Women’s V Cup for a breakthrough silver medal finish Sunday at the Chiang Mai Sports Complex in Thailand.

The Filipinas saved seven setpoint disadvantages in the fourth set before pulling through a thrilling payback over the same side that denied them a podium in Vietnam in the opening leg for their highest finish since the inception of the regional volleyball tilt in 2019.

“We didn’t expect much because this is the first time we’re playing in a silver medal match. I told everybody to focus on ourselves and not focus on the opponents’ side because what we can control is what’s on our side. And they did,” Alas head coach Taka Minowa said.

Alas finished the tournament with a 2-1 win-loss record, winning back-to-back after halting a seven-year losing skid against Vietnam with a 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22, last Saturday.

It was a perfect comeback for Alas after an embarrassing 0-3 result in Hanoi last week, where it saw its four straight third-place finish snapped by Indonesia on the final day.

Alyssa Solomon, who was named Best Opposite Spiker in the first leg, banged in all of her 19 points off kills to lead Alas.

Solomon teamed up with Bella Belen, Eya Laure and Fifi Sharma in the exciting mad race to the finish in the fourth set.

Alas got into a world of trouble in the fourth frame after going down 22-24, following an Arsela Nuari Purnama kill.

Belen saved a set point on an attack before Sharma timed Ersandrina Devega Salsabila’s spike attempt to score a kill block for the deuce at 24.

Indonesia regained the lead before Alas’ counterattacks for its first matchpoint advantage, 26-25. The Philippines held a 27-26 lead before the Indonesians equalized.

Indonesia would hold the next four setpoint advantages before Solomon’s attack knotted the count at 31.

Sharma shut the door on Salsabila once again to put Alas back in front. Salsabila tried to salvage a point but was caught too eager on her attack that sailed out.

“We really prepared for this game because we know we have a chance of getting the silver medal. I believed in the team. I know we can win this game and I’m so happy we won this game,” said Belen, who scored 17 points on 15 kills and two kill blocks.

Laure, who had 22 points against Vietnam, finished with 17 points on 14 attacks and three kill blocks while Dell Palomata made her presence felt in front of the net with six kill blocks for a nine-point production for Alas.

Alas was in control in the opening frame, but faltered in the second before regaining its bearing in the third for a 2-1 match lead.

“We know that Indonesia will be playing better against us because we lost to them in the last leg. We knew we had a chance because we’ve already won two sets and it was up to us to finish the game,” added Belen, who also tallied 15 digs.

Indonesia closed the leg with a 1-2 record and will await the result of the final match still being played as of press time between Thailand, which is already assured of the gold, and winless Vietnam for its final placing.

Purnama got 18 of her 19 points on attacks, Mediol Stiovanny Yoku finished with 18 markers while Salsabila scored 13 for Indonesia.
