  • CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Northern Mindanao has intensified its crackdown on colorum public utility vehicles (PUVs), conducting surprise terminal and roadside inspections in Iligan City.

Enforcement teams checked franchises, operating authorities and other required documents, while also inspecting vehicles for roadworthiness to ensure that only safe, compliant and authorized units remain on the road.

LTFRB-10 regional director Aljo Bendijo said the operations aim to protect commuters, promote road safety and ensure fair competition among legitimate operators.

“LTFRB-10 will not let up in going after illegal transport operations. We are doing this to ensure that every ride is safe and that our law-abiding operators are protected,” Bendijo said.

The agency earlier deployed “Mystery Riders” across Northern Mindanao under LTFRB Memorandum Circular No. 2026-018 and Board Resolution No. 2026-088. The riders secretly board PUVs and private vehicles operating as public transport to document possible violations and identify units operating without proper franchises or authority.

Mystery Riders who document violations that lead to the successful apprehension and filing of cases against colorum vehicles may receive rewards from the LTFRB.

Bendijo said the enforcement operations will continue as the agency works to curb illegal public transport operations in the region.

The LTFRB urged commuters to use only legitimate public utility vehicles and report suspected colorum operations.
