Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez vehemently denied the allegations of Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla that he was supposedly being targeted in the ongoing investigations related to the multibillion peso flood control scandal.
The sentiments of Romualdez came as a reaction to Remulla alleging that the former House Speaker was behind the decision of three out of the eight self-proclaimed bodyguards of former partylist representative Zaldy Co to withdraw their claims contained in the affidavits.
The solon stressed that the investigative body was clearly prejudiced against him and that the withdrawal of testimonies was a clear sign of his claim.
“The recantations prove what I had been saying all along that the accusations against me are false and trumped up,” he stated.
Romualdez maintained that the process was not supposedly “how a fair search for the truth is conducted” stressing that he was still eager to face all accusations that were being pitted up against him.
“I will face every accusation against me, defend myself with the facts, the evidence, and the truth,” he said.
To recall, the Ombudsman alleged that Romualdez with the help of Co and other officials supposedly amassed P56 billion in ill-gotten wealth from 2022 to 2025 through flood control and infrastructure kickbacks through a case that was filed for preliminary investigation.
The complaints alleged that the solon and his co-conspirators allegedly committed crimes of plunder, graft, direct and indirect bribery, and money laundering as public funds were misappropriated.
