Word from the country’s top gumshoes is that the firm allegedly lent its letterhead to something far messier than corporate work: Helping build a case meant to frame a sitting Cabinet-level official.

The alleged scheme, per investigators: high-end companions, a manager pulling strings behind them, and lawyers standing by to draft affidavits before the cameras ever rolled. Four members of the firm are now expecting subpoenas.

The bureau chief wasn’t shy about confirming the shape of it, even while keeping the name behind his teeth — for now.

Two other figures already known to the public, a sitting representative and a former congressman, remain in a gentler category: as resource speakers, not respondents. Their turn before investigators comes next week, having been bumped once already.
