2 Filipino seafarers injured in Black Sea drone attack return home

Two Filipino seafarers from the Panama-flagged tanker M/T Gas Lisbon arrived in the Philippines on Monday, 3 August, after sustaining injuries when a drone strike hit the vessel in the Black Sea.
The seafarers arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City aboard Qatar Airways flight QR932.
They were welcomed at the airport by Migrant Workers Assistant Secretary Maria Regina Angela Galias and representatives of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) provided airport and financial assistance to the two seafarers.
Representatives of their licensed manning agency, Alpha Pearl of the Orient Maritime, Inc., also met them at the airport. Their agency also arranged their repatriation, hospitalization, and continuing care.
The DMW directed the manning agency to ensure that the seafarers undergo the necessary physical and psychological examinations and debriefing sessions.
The Migrant workers department reminded licensed manning agencies and their accredited principals to observe safety precautions and comply with established protocols for vessels carrying Filipino seafarers through the Black Sea.
The agency further said that it will continue coordinating with the manning agency to monitor the seafarers’ medical condition and ensure that they receive the necessary assistance and care.
