CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Bulua National High School (BNHS) suspended face-to-face classes on Monday following an online mass shooting threat posted on social media over the weekend.

The school has shifted students to modular learning while authorities assess the security of the campus, according to BNHS principal Nina Marie Estillore.

The decision was made during an emergency meeting Sunday involving police, barangay officials, and the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization.

Another meeting was held Monday to reassess campus safety measures.

“Our priority is the safety of students,” Estillore said.

The alert stemmed from a Facebook Live video posted Sunday in which a man claiming to be a shooter said, “shout out: Bogo and Bulua prepare your army I am one of the shooter.”

After the post went viral, police and local officials across two barangays met and recommended canceling in-person classes pending an investigation.

Although the man later posted that his threat was only a joke, Estillore emphasized that school administration, police and barangay officials are taking the matter seriously.

Police officers and barangay tanods have been stationed at the school since the start of the school year, with inspections conducted during opening and dismissal times.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the suspect and his parents are currently in police custody.
