National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag on Thursday said the bureau is preparing to file two cases involving alleged irregularities in flood control projects as it continues its investigation into complaints of substandard infrastructure.
Speaking to reporters, Matibag said the NBI's task force remains actively investigating flood control projects following persistent public complaints.
"Actually, a lot of people are also complaining about the flood control projects. The problem has been there for some time, and it is still happening now. As we speak, we have a task force investigating the flood control issues," he said.
Matibag emphasized that the bureau's investigations are guided by evidence and not by political considerations.
"And again, I have to say this: we are conducting the investigation based on the evidence," he said.
He encouraged individuals with information or complaints to come forward to help strengthen the cases being built by investigators.
The NBI chief disclosed that two cases have already reached the filing stage.
"Those two flood control project cases are already for filing," Matibag said.
He declined to identify the projects involved or the individuals who may face charges, citing the ongoing proceedings.
