Australian FM Penny Wong visits BRP Teresa Magbanua
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) welcomed Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong aboard BRP Teresa Magbanua at Pier 15, Manila, on 21 July 2026. She was received by PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan and Department of Transportation Undersecretary Mark Steven Pastor. During the visit, Wong announced additional Australian assistance to enhance the PCG's aerial and maritime drone capabilities, as well as its training programs. In his remarks, Gavan highlighted the eight decades of diplomatic relations between Australia and the Philippines, emphasizing the strong partnership between the two countries in the areas of economic cooperation, maritime security, and international cooperation. Wong also expressed concern over China's "destabilizing and dangerous" actions in the disputed South China Sea, including what she described as aggressive actions against Philippine Navy personnel during an incident at Ayungin Shoal on 20 July.
