The Department of Justice–Board of Claims has awarded P470,000 in financial compensation to a 10-year-old rape victim from Guimaras under the Victims Compensation Program pursuant to Republic Act 7309.
Justice Secretary Fredderick A. Vida, together with Board of Claims Chairperson and Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Miguel F. Gudio Jr. and Negros Island Regional Prosecutor Ulysses C. Andora, handed over the financial assistance at the Office of the City Prosecutor in Bacolod City on 9 July.
The board approved the victim’s application after evaluating the relevant documents and supporting evidence.
The compensation covers 47 qualifying offenses, including seven counts of rape and acts of lasciviousness, and 39 counts of violating Article III, Section 5(b) of Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
The DoJ said the grant reflects its commitment to a compassionate, victim-centered approach that prioritizes the welfare and recovery of child victims by providing timely financial assistance.
“We fully recognize that no amount of money can undo the pain and suffering experienced by a child, but we hope that this assistance will help ease some of the burdens they carry, support their recovery, and help them rebuild their lives,” Vida said.
