Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested three foreign nationals during separate enforcement operations across Luzon and the Visayas for violating Philippine immigration laws, the agency announced Monday.
The operations, conducted on 1 and 2 July by the bureau’s intelligence division and regional units, took place in Cainta, Rizal; Sagbayan, Bohol; and Baguio City.
Authorities identified the individuals as Henri Joel Atanga Betayene of Cameroon; Murat Fentci of Turkey and Mario Angelai of Italy.
Betayene was apprehended at a residential subdivision in Cainta after intelligence operatives confirmed that he had overstayed his visa.
Meantime, Fentci was arrested in the village of Barangay Canmaya Diot in Sagbayan, Bohol, after a records check showed he had also remained in the country past his authorized period of stay.
In Baguio City, intelligence operatives arrested Angelai after conducting surveillance at a local restaurant. Investigators discovered the Italian national was actively working as a chef despite holding only a tourist visa, which prohibits local employment without the required work permits
