YVON Bisera delivers another steady round, highlighted by just one bogey en route to a three-shot lead.
LUBAO, Pampanga — Playing through a lingering left-hand injury and an hour-long weather delay, Yvon Bisera stayed on course for another title after firing a second straight three-under-par 69 to open a three-shot lead after two rounds of the ICTSI Pradera Verde Championship at the Arayat course here on Wednesday.
Bisera turned in another composed performance, overcoming an early challenge from first-round co-leader Harmie Constantino before methodically taking control with timely birdies, steady putting and disciplined course management.
The Davaoeña wasted little time asserting herself, birdieing Nos. 2 and 3 to break away from Constantino. Although a three-putt bogey on the fifth briefly stalled her charge, she quickly recovered with birdies on Nos. 10 and 12 while Constantino struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
A bogey on the 17th threatened to slow her momentum, but Bisera responded with a birdie on the closing hole to salvage another 69 and finish 36 holes at six-under 138, putting herself in prime position to claim her second Ladies Philippine Golf Tour title of the season.
The ICTSI Lakewood Championship winner now needs just one more solid round to add another trophy to her growing collection.
“I played much steadier yesterday. I didn’t make a single bogey,” Bisera said in Filipino, comparing her opening-round performance with Wednesday’s round.
She admitted the three-putt on the fifth was costly after opening with back-to-back birdies.
Despite the setback, Bisera regained her rhythm, finishing with three birdies against two bogeys to maintain firm control heading into the final round of the P750,000 championship.
Constantino slipped to second after carding an even-par 72 for a 141 total, while Chihiro Ikeda struggled to a 74 but remained alone in third at 144.
Defending champion Chanelle Avaricio lost further ground with a 75 following an opening 71, dropping to 146 — eight shots behind Bisera.
Gretchen Villacencio matched Bisera for the day’s best round with a 69 to climb to fifth at 147, while Daniella Uy carded a second straight 74 for a 148 aggregate.
Bisera credited her strong play to her growing familiarity with the Arayat layout.
“I feel more comfortable on greens like these because they’re becoming familiar to me,” she said. “I also like the yardage because most of my approach shots are within 120 yards, which really suits my game.”
Despite carrying a comfortable cushion into the final round, Bisera remains cautious.
“I just need to keep playing steadily and avoid any more three-putts. Hopefully, my hand won’t bother me anymore as well,” she said.
Bisera’s strong showing comes despite the hand injury that has hampered her recent campaigns. After finishing runner-up at the Singapore Ladies Masters, she placed fifth at Caliraya Springs and 10th at Pinewoods, a mountain course she admitted did not suit her game.
The flatter Arayat layout, however, has brought out the best in her. Confident off the tee and sharp with her irons, Bisera has pieced together back-to-back 69s through patience, consistency and resilience to emerge as the player to beat heading into Thursday’s final round.
